I am doing a science project on the germination of bean seeds. My results were that the beans grew faster and taller in club soda than in water. Why is this? What does club soda have in it to make it grow so fast?
Why Is Chlorine Gas Not Bubbled Through Spa Water?
You could bubble elementary chlorine gas (Cl2) through spa water, but it
requires having a tank of chlorine (which is toxic) and the equipment to
allow the gas to escape slowly at the correct rate. Such equipment may
be expensive and complicated. It is easier to use chlorine-containing
compounds such as hypochlorites which are easy to store and can be
easily added to the spa or pool water in the required amount. It’s also
cheaper to use chlorine compounds than to buy & maintain equipment
for bubbling chlorine through the water.
Note: In some spas bromine compounds are used, but their action is
similar to chlorine compounds. Hope this explanation helps!
