What Kind Of Makeup Should I Wear With A Red Dress?
This is for a ring dance. I have dark brown hair and brown eyes. My skin tone is tan. The dress is like an apple red. I would appreciate some ideas to help me choose the perfect makeup. Thanks!

Never ever wear red lipstick with a red dress. It sounds like you have a nice complexion, so play up your eyes with some liquid liner (black), mascara (same color), a nice neutral blush, just a light sweep of color and a nice shiny neutral gloss (I have super lustrous by Revlon in coffee gleam- it’s the perfect color for anybody). With a red dress, you want people to notice your killer dress, and your lips would be distracting. You could pull off a nice deep red lipstick with a black dress, just for future reference. Trust me, you’ll look HOT!!!! Let us know how it goes.

I would go with a more dramatic smokey eye, and a nude or glossy lipstick. Please do not listen to these people suggesting red lipstick! How tacky! Would you wear blue lipstick if your dress was blue? No. So keep in mind- your lipstick does not need to match your dress.
Have a great time!

That depends entirely on your “season” as well as the “season” of the dress.
By “season”, I mean are you a warm toned person or a cool toned person, also for the dress. Is it a blue-Red or a yellow-Red.
Do you want to be Pretty, Beautiful or Radiant?
Get the right advice, check with people who can help you the best, like your local cosmetician, color means a lot.

Just thought I’d add my 2-scents
205 Answers for Makeup for a Red Dress! This has got to be a record of some kind.
I worked with some famous and not so famous people of all shapes, sizes and colors. There are some good Answers, but the truth is, and this is a fact: You always work with your own skin type and color. After this is achieved you can kick it up a notch.
Do this by jazzing it up with a Red matte lip color that compliments your skin tone also. Warm skin tone Golden Rd Apple. Cool skin tone Silver-cool Rd Apple. Lip color. Big tip when using any RED lip color is to line the lips. AND DON’T USE a GLOSS!!! Sorry but red gloss is great for a photo shoot, but not a Dance. Trust me, a gloss +red= MESS. It will be on every cup, glass, & person you come into contact with. Include on your teeth, and it will bleed all-around the rest of your face. PLEASE USE MATTE.
I agree w/ lashes if your experienced wearing them, they flip at the edges, and if well….just wear Black Mascara.
Lastly, Silver eyeshadow tends to turn BLUE. If you email me I could design the perfect look. But, my 360 is down for the moment.
Just have fun!!!!

Keep it very natural. The dress is the feature and you don’t want to take away from that. If you try and match make up to dress u may end up looking like a lollypop.

Maybe like a light almost gold, brown ,kinda shimmery with dark brown eye liner, with like the eye liner though, kinda of curl it off at the end of your eye, with some red lipstick.

Smoke effect for the eyes (black, gray and silver eyeshadow – darker towards the outer corner, lighter one under the browbone and towards inner corner of your eye against nose), then pale lipstick. Remember that if you want to accentuate your eyes the lipstick has to be pale, and viceversa (if you choose a red lipstick to accentuate them, you need to go light on your eyes). I love the smoke effect on eyes, makes them bigger, sexier and it surely goes perfect with any formal evening activity.

I would suggest with tan skin and a red dress…..light colors……..DON’T DO ANYTHING DARK………because like…….ewww………..if you have a bright dress you don’t want to drown it with dark makeup……….THIN eyeliner with light pinks and tan color eye shadow and brownish blach mascara (never do black mascar with brown eyes) don’t do it to heavy though

something light, red is such a bold color. since you have brown hair i wouldn’t use too dark of eye shadow, something mixed with a slight bit of red, i dunno about the black eyelinerthat seems a little too dramati for a ring dance.

Less is more, I also have tan skin and brown hair.
Wear a small amount of rose colored blush, line the top and bottom of your eyelids in an espresso colored eyeliner with black mascara and a shimmery sand colored eyeshadow.
and my favorite lip gloss can be found at sephora its made by The Balm the color is Tutti my Frutti and it looks great on no matter what color you are wearing. Stay away from the red lipstick though.

go classic, dramatic lashes!
put on a a light tan eye shadow then a lot of mascara this will draw the attention away from just the dress…the attention will be on YOU… oh and use a light pink blush to even things out, if your going to use eye liner that’s fine but focus on the outside of you eyes, this is a sure fire way to put all eyes on you i did it and it worked and i have the same skin tone and hair color as you. and for your lips a pretty sheer gloss! that tops it off!

You should wear red lipstick, clear lipgloss, or pink lipgloss.

Please no red lipstick. You will look trashy! You have plenty of coloring in your hair and skin to pull off this dress beautifully. Do a smoldering/smoky eye with dark browns & greys (black will be too harsh) with neutral, glossy lips. A subtle rosy glow on the cheeks will be the perfect finishing touch to play on the tone of the dress. When a dress is a strong color like red, you don’t want your face competing with it. Keep it soft but glamorous. If you want more drama, do a fabulous up-do in your hair. If you are more naturistic, leave it down.
But in any case, I really hope you don’t wear red lipstick.

Wear your normal makeup that compliments your skin and just make sure that your lipstick does not clash with your red dress.
