The pace car. Often driven by Brett Bodine.
If you look, their are lights on top of it. When they are on their final pace lap before the start or restart, the lights will go off. This signals the drivers that they are about to restart (as does the guy waving the yellow flag and holding up 1 finger!). On a scanner, you’ll hear the spotter saying “Lights are out. Going this time.”
And, macho is correct. Prior to the race there are two pace cars on track. The first half of the field is behind one, the second half is behind the other. The pace cars will drive at pit road speed for a lap to let the drivers get a read on their tachometer (RPMs). This lets them calculate pit road speed under pit stops. Cars directly behind the pace car get a good read, but cars further back do not always get an accurate read. Last week, at Texas, Kasey Kahne used 4000 in 2nd gear as pit road speed.

That would be the pace car, as everyone else has already said. Something I just learned recently and thought it was interesting was that the pace car is the only car on the track with a labeled speedometer, so when the pace car is setting the speed for how fast the cars are allowed to drive during cautions and on pit road, drivers will often mark the spot where the line goes up to on their own cars so they won’t speed on pit road (which is a penalty). Someone please correct me if I’m wrong about this, I just heard it the other day and may not be 100% accurate- but I thought it was interesting anyway :) .

Car that is slow is a “off the pace” car.
A car that starts at the front in the beginning is the pole car and leader to the green.

Car flag is decorative and are extremely visible every time you see a car decorated. But did you ever think about what you really represent? If only there for decorative purposes? Or are there for a specific purpose?
