Is It Appropriate To Wear Short Skirts In Church Is This Distracting For Others To Focus On God?

is NOT about being judgmental or how you are seen in the eyes of God. It’s more about understanding the weaknesses of those around you and showing respect for them when they are trying to on God. Men are visual beings who struggle with lust all the time. We are constantly bombarded with sexual imagery in advertising like no other generation. Marketers know what they are doing because its hard for us not to look twice at half naked woman. Just as you wouldn’t ask a thief to guard a pile of diamonds for you at or have a substance abuser look at the substance they abuse- the same respect and understanding should be applied to revealing clothes at . Its not about weather your clothing is inherently sinful (it isn’t), its about understanding the struggles of those around us and asking the question, “Am I helping or hindering their worship?”

I was a “Catholic school girl.” Personally I think wearing revealing clothing is EXTREMELY distracting to the real focus of the school: learning and God. You are not at the school to get attention, you are there to learn.

people who need church to focus on god already got a problem religiously speaking.
whether or not you distract them is not important.

I believe in a non-judgemental god, who loves you no matter what you wear. However, you’re going to be surrounded by a lot of humans who may be judgemental about what you wear. I’d say no on the short skirt…not because you should conform, but to make it a more enjoyable service for you. Not so enjoyable with the closed-minded, judgemental people glaring at you.

short skirts don’t have to be a problem. pair it with a top that covers you and the outfit can still look cute. i mean, you’re not asking for attention, right? you just want to wear something that you like. i dont know where you’re from, but here in ny, it’s still pretty cold, in which case the short skirt would just be plain weird and i’d have to wonder what’s wrong with you. but if it’s nice where you are and you want to wear it, far be it from anyone else to stop you.

I personally think its not good. You shouldnt go there to make a fashion statement or try and get guys. You should go there and make sure your heart is in the right place. I definatly dont think appropriate.

You’ve gotten a lot of great answers so far, and I also agree with many of them. The fact that you are concerned enough to ask about the appropriateness of the skirt is likely an indication that it is not appropriate.

Isn’t the point that the woman is in church to begin with? We shouldn’t judge and we should focus on what is important to us, not what one is wearing.

No, you should dress modestly, no need to look like a hoochie, especially when you’re supposed to be praising God.

If you have to even ask the question, “Is this appropriate for Church?”, it probably isn’t. Church is for worship, not a fashion show. Along the same lines I dislike dressing ultra classy or “to the nines” as a LOT of people do (you know, dressing in their Sunday best). Just be normal people!
It depends a bit on the church too though, because I know you might not want to stand out or be different. At my parent’s church, it’s all classy, VERY well dressed holier-than-thous. At my Grandpa’s church, nice jeans and a T-shirt that does not say Budweiser across the front are OK. Guess which church I think people are more “real” at?

I personally think you should dress respectfully in church, and not as if you were a stripper.

You go to church to worship your God so the attire of the congregation should not be an issue, if people are distracted by short skirts its something they themselves need to address.
