How Do I Keep My Jacket Clean?
I have bought a gorgeous cream coloured cotton mac. The problem is that my handbag straps are leaving marks on the shoulder where I carry it. This is going to cost me a fortune in dry cleaning – does anyone know if there is something I can treat the jacket with to prevent this happening?

Change your bag to light color or lose the strap! Speak to your dry cleaner about guardsmen (same principle as scotchguard but is totally natural not chemical based) and it might prolong the use you’ll get out of the mac and how deep-seated the stain gets……though I am not sure if it is available to put into items once manufactured, the fabric might need to have been treated first. Cobblers do sell waterproofing stuff for shoes though so maybe seek advice there.
However because your garment is light it is naturally going to attract dirt and stain easily anyway, this is one the pitfalls of any light garment and sofa’s/chairs.(Such as if you wear light coloured boots with dark trousers/jeans the colour will transfer onto the boots).
Good luck!!

you can get a water proof spray which might give it a slight protective coat?

Sew or glue a strip of cloth to the inside part of the handle of your handbag length ways. The cloth will sit on the jacket and not leave marks. Make sure it is the color of the handbage (or close to it) and narrower than the handles so it doesn’t show. Hope this helps. Oh! yhry make canned spray-on glue. But if you use it spray the cloth not the bag. It is very stick so you will have to apply the cloth to the bag right away and make sure it is straight. It is hard to move it around.

The easiest way is to put a covering on the handbag straps – clear plastic tubing

Yeah a clutch bag that’s in today, but to a jacket i don’t think it fits.
Or a belt bag
Or don’t wear bag if you wear your jacket, anyway jackets do have lots of pockets.
TIPS:
if you can’t go w/o that bag with your jacket – - – glue some franilas under the strap of your bag that touches your jacket.

You need to get a different bag. One with handles that can be wiped down every morning, or just get a clutch.

Instead of treating the jacket, treat the handbag straps. If they are leather or vinyl, Armorall works very well.
