Why Is The Tree Called Bradford Pear?
Bradford and Callery are located in Pennysilvania in the USA.
The pear comes from there so the name. It is NOT named after any personality.
The pear is NOT cultivated for its fruits BUT as a hardy rootstock for grafting other edible varieties.
It is also grown for its beautiful flowers.

It is in the pear family, hence pear.
Whoever discovered or should I say created this variety named it Bradford. Could have been his first or last name. The only way to know why is to ask him.
The Bradford Pear is a cultivated variety of the Callery Pear. Unlike most other pear trees this form is grown mainly for its ornamental features. The Bradford Pear is very disease resistant, making it useful as a street tree.
