Well, let me tell you what I use…
Ammonia for green potted plants and garden… yes, regular .50 cent bottle of ammonia. Its nitrogen for the plants, it keeps them healthy and green. Perhaps 1/2 c to 1 gal of water. I use a watering can or an old milk jug rinsed of course and pour away. The difference is almost immediately.
Also, I use Epsom salt. Same thing. It also says it on the package (bag or carton) that is is a good fertilizer. Its amazing for potted plants and garden plants. Most people use it for sprains and swellings or bath additives, but plants love it also, lawns, it makes it green and grow for certain in one day! Seriously.
Also, I use Miracle Grow All purpose plant food. I had tomato plants so I had the one for tomatoes and also I have a least expensive version of this called, Expert Gardener, All purpose plant food.. The miracle grow I have is 18-18-21, the Expert Gardener is 24-8-16..
That means it has 24% nitrogen, which helps the plants have green coloration and rapid growth, (Nitrogen) the 8% phospate helps stimulate root and plant growth and encourages bloom production, and the 16% Potash (potassium) maintains plant vigor, encourages rooting and increases plant resistance to diseases.
So whenever you see those three numbers as such x-x-x on a plant fertilizer label, thats the same order everytime. Nitrogen, phosphate, potassium (potash) and if you want brighter blooms, or bigger ones, get the one that has more of the middle number such as 10-18-10, or if you wanted for houseplants, which normally doesn’t have blooms, you may want to get one with more nitrogen and potash. Its easy to determine what you want depending on what plant you are fertilizing. A good all purpose plant feeder usually works wonders on ALL plants.
All of these I use inside and outside on all plants, flowers, gardens, trees, shrubs, etc. Also, the all purpose ones that say they are water soluble, that means you can mix in a plant sprayer that you connect with a hose and spray directly on the leaves also because plants eat from leaves as well as roots. Kinda like nourishing our skin with vitamin added lotions and the like. If they aren’t water soluble, just sprinkle a tablespoon or so on your plants per foot if its potted, like the epsom salt, and I usually keep an old milk jug full of the water soluble ones so I can water at will.
For the garden, if its the epsom salts or non water soluble fertilizers, just add 1 tbs all around the base of the plant per foot. (e.i. 3 ft tall plant, use 3 tbs) and kind of scratch it in the dirt and water well. It will do wonders for the plants, Any and each one of these.
They are all under $3. The Miracle Grow, about 1.5lb box may cost $3.85 or something like. But the Expert Gardener, which is only a different brand of the M. Grow, was like $2.84. Epsom salt, ame places as the ammonia, its, like about $2.12 a 5 or 4 lb bag. I always buy the bag its larger and doesn’t run out as soon. I also use it in the bath water for soaking and soothing. It also removes toxins from your skin, especially good for soaking for cancer patients. The radiation and chemo they take.. It helps to remove that stuff from their skins, or just any old body can use it. We are all toxic to a certain extent. But, where I get the most of them is WAL-MART! Ammonia, the very one that cleans floors, glass, ovens-this is the same one I use for my plants also. Its like 50 cent a bottle! At your local supermarket or Dollar General…
Good luck… Hope all of this helped! Happy Planting… If I can help with plants at all again, hit me up. I am an avid gardner… Or so I think I am!
