    I like the updated version:
    An apple a day
    Keeps the doctor away
But if the doctor is cute
    Screw the fruit!

It means eating you’re fruits and veggies everyday boosts your immune system so that you can fight off infectious agents a lot better, thus keeping you out of the doctor’s office.

It is just an old wives tale probably created to get kids to eat fruit.

It means that apples are good for you. So they’re saying that if you eat an apple instead of junk food, or probably just an apple a day, that will make you healthy and give you a stronger amune system so your body will be able to fight off germs easily meaning that you won’t get sick as often meaning that you won’t have to go to the doctors office as much meaning that the doctor is away.
Honestly people it isn’t that hard to figure out.

it was an old promotion for eating healthier.
it does have pectin which improves digestion and antioxidants which kill free radicals but nothing more than oranges, bananas and grapes.
    …that i know of.
