They are both cereal crops. Oats are in the family ‘avena’ whereas wheat is a kind of grass.
They are both good sources of carbohydrate, but while wheat production mainly is used for human consumption, oats are primarily used for animal feed. They are certainly edible, though, and I rather like them.
They are good for different things. I can’t really make a value judgement between them, but I suppose I would have to say that wheat is more versatile.
