My Dog Has Horrible Hives/bumps?
my little shitzu/havenese mix has really bad hives (or something) all over her body. She has a vet appointment next week, so I’ll be able to find out exatly what’s wrong with her…but she’s soooo itchy (and the bumps are gross too; they’re about the size of a small pea, and they’re flaking and starting to scab over).
She’s so uncomfortable, is there anything I can do for her in the meantime? What exactly is causing this reaction?
(Also, it’s NOT fleas or anything–it’s almost like she’s having a really bad allergic reaction to something, and it’s just getting worse)

Is it mostly on her stomach or just all over? If it’s her stomach and they are red/scabbing/flaky then it could be an allergy to the grass or dust outside. (Since those breeds bellys are closer to the ground and can get grass on them) My sister has a bulldog with the same rash on her tummy from grass allergies. I would call the doctor, just to be certain your dog is okay… and if she is okay … see what you can give your dog in the meantime to make her more comfortable. There has to be some kind of cream. I know my sister gives her 8 year old bulldog baby benadryl and she feels better. A little sleepy, but a lot less itchy. I hope your pup feels better soon!!

It is that time of year when bees are out – she may be having a reaction to a sting. The bumps you describe sound alot like my dog’s reactions to bee stings
Another possibility is that her skin is irritated from not thoroughly rinsing her after a shampoo – I know my dogs get “lumpy bumpies” if they aren’t rinsed really well.
Good luck

hives do not scab over, so it is some kind of skin irritation. I would try to get him in sooner because it could also be a skin infection.
There is not much you can give especially because you do not know what it is, call in your vet and ask to speak with a tech if they will not give you a sooner appt.

take her ASAP!! if it’s a reaction to something, it could get worse. if its an ailment, then u might have a problem.(bigger than the one right now) also, how old is it?

You really need to get your dog to an emergency vet ASAP.
If it is an allergic reaction, then her airway could start to close and that never ends up well.
Next week may be too late.

Consider a food allergy and begin modifying his diet.
