Looking For Some Good Books – Keep In Mind I Don’t Usually Like Reading(more Info Inside Xp)?

off, the book(s) can not be something I have or will in school. That includes, but is not limited to, To A Mocking Bird, Catcher in the Rye, The Giver, and of the Flies.
Second, no vampires. I love fantasy and fairy tales, but not vampires. The only exception to would be if the book is not aimed at young adults, though I am one myself. Do not recommend Rice’s books though. I’m already planning on giving them a go.
Third, I’m not a fan of romance unless the girl has a backbone, and can defend herself. But, she knows when she should ask for help. And she has to be able to function even when the guy isn’t around. I also don’t like the girl-falls-for-the-bad-boy thing.
Fourth, don’t name popular teen book like Harry Potter, Twilight(and all those other silly ‘vampire’ books for ), Speak, and so on. If I wanted to read those I would have by now. Also, I don’t like books by Sarah Desson or Ellen Hopkins.
I have read a Child Called It, and I’m not interested in reading Dave’s other books. I have read Stardust by Neil Gaiman and loved it. Since I already I like his writing , please don’t recommend anything by him. I love pirates, and books set in the late 1800′s. I’m a junior in high school. Thank you so much, and sorry I’m so picky and comma crazy. Xp

Well if you’re looking for good books, I suggest:
-”Push” by Sapphire (this has been made into a movie called “Precious” but the book is better
-”The Devil Wears Prada” by Lauren Weisberger, yeah this one’s a movie too but again…you will be surprised how much better the book is ;)
-”Before I die” by Jenny Downham, about a girl with cancer making a list of things she wants to do before dying.
-”Emma” by Jane Austen, I doubt whether you will be asked to read this for school because it’s too girly, though a classic, it’s really funny and witty. If you like this , you will adore “Pride and Prejudice”.Yes both of these are romance, but not too sappy and cheesy, and the girls have guts and backbone I promise you.
-”Little Women” another classic, but very very sweet, about 4 sisters who go through a lot.
-”Wuthering Heights” by Emily Bronte. sigh. yes another classic (seriously the best ones are classics, but the most enjoyable ones are the ones with some romance/adventure, and girly to some degree. Plot: dude loves dudette, dudette loved dude but marries rich stud, dudette dies giving birth to baby, dude becomes mean and bitter and nasty. Go figure.
-”Girl with a pearl Earring” a novel by Tracy Chevalier, it’s the story of the girl in Vermeer’s painting, (here’s a pic http://sisterskeepers.files.wordpress.co… ) narrated by the girl herself.
-”Sophie’s misfortunes” by The Comptesse de Segur (this one is translated from french) about a little disobedient girl with much too many problems…this one is actually a trilogy, the other books in the series are “Perfect Little Girls” and “The Vacations”
-”The Swan Maiden” by Jules Watson is the story f a girl from an Irish Celtic legend
-”The Daughter” by Jasmine Cresswell: a 15 year old girl finds her mom shot in her room, the girl is unfairly sent to prison, after 7 years, she escapes and vows to find the real murderer of her mom.
-”King Solomon’s Mines” by H.Rider Haggard. A quest for a treasure hunt. Adventure, pure adventure.
-”Silas Marner” by George Eliot. A story about a greedy, lonely, bitter man who ends up adopting the orphaned little girl who stumbled upon his house. A sweet book.
    As for fairy tales
-”Aesop’s Fables” are full of wisdom about life and insights.
-”Tales of the Arabian Nights” are stories after stories that you never get bored of.
