Is It Ok For My Threee Month Baby To Start Eating The Rice Cereal.?
I know they say they should be at least four months, he will be on april 4th but right now he does not seem to be satisfied with 7 to 8 ounces of formula. He is weighing about 14 pounds right now. Friends tell me to start him already, but i am always a worrying mommy and likes to go by the books lol
They have also told me to put some rice cereal in his bottle and it will fill him up…
What do you think?

You can try him with a little rice cereal and see how he goes. Back when I was a first time mum it was quite normal to start your baby on rice cereal at about 3 months of age. My daughter showed no interest in the rice cereal when I first tried to feed it to her, she was 4 months old before she showed any interest. My second child was having rice cereal by the time he was three months old, no problems at all. I know starting your child on solids before six months is frowned upon these days, but it worked for me. I don’t recommend the rice cereal in the bottle. I tried that once as a first time mum and never tried it again, made sucking too hard and didn’t achieve anything by it.

I started my twins on it a month ago when they were 2 months. They were going through a growth spurt (they were growing a 1/4 a week!) and I was nursing them ALL the time! I only put about 1or 2 Tbs to a 5 oz bottle. It was just enough to thicken the milk slightly and I only gave it to them at bed time. They loved it and I was able to nurse them normally the rest of the time. They started to turn their nose up at it last week so I haven’t given it to them for the last couple of days and they seem perfectly fine so I’m guessing that this spurt is over. There will be more gas and the poop will change a little bit.

My doc said usually four months but she said it was up to me. My son started getting baby cereal at 3 months and hes growing like a weed. Certainly didnt hurt him to have baby cereal at 3 months. Seriously what does it matter if you feed him baby cereal a month early?

If he shows interest in your food, while you eat, and has neck strength, give er! You can do the bottle method…my son hated it- or the cereal method…make it thick. Not watery, but not oatmeal. my son sucked it back like it was nothing and I knew he was ready. I moved to pureed food at 4 months, and he now eats everything at 11 months…even spinach salad..lol..
Feed him by instinct I say, but avoid peanuts and shellfish.

I’d give him about 2 ounces of cereal for lunch, start him off small… but he’ll be fine!!! But I’d stick to feeding him on a spoon!

A little bit of rice cereal is ok if he’s not satisified with purely formula. I would try a couple of tablespoons twice a day. But do not put it in his bottle….feed him from a spoon! If he spits it out or pushes it out then his tongue reflexes are not ready for solids. If that’s the case then I would wait at least another month.

I would say now..three months is pretty soon…his liver wont be able to take up..they are too small..you can try doing so by next mnth if you want but slowly..at three mnths all that the babies need is milk..breastmilk or formula depending upon ur choice…if u put cereal in his bottle he might end up having upset stomach/tight stools/bad gas..and then it might disturb his sleep…i would say wait for 1-2 more mnths..hang in there..

I think that you will be ok to go ahead and give it to him. I know alot of parents that do it early. Just make sure it’s not hurting his tummy and you of course will know if it does. I was told not to give it to them in their bottles due to it clumping. They will have to suck harder and it tends to fly through the nipple and it could cause them to choke.

No, please don’t do it! He is too young and he won’t be able to digest it. Just feed him more milk more frequently. Here is some more information about why to delay solids:http://www.askdrsears.com/html/3/T032000…http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/solids…http://www.nbci.ca/index.php?option=com_…

Hello!
Well my son weighed in at almost 9lbs when he was born, and would eat like a horse, every a hour and half sometimes 2hrs. So at 4months I feed him cereal, 1 tbsp per 8 ounces. He will keep his weight on of course until he crawls lol! But hey he is a big growing boy. Just watch for choking which is unlikely, also do NOT buy any of the flavored cereals until you see he will eat the plain, then most babies like Banana flav. then keep moving up as he gets more hungier, like when he is no longer full with the 2 tbsp (which happens in about 2 weeks).
Also watch for gas, this will happen the first 1-2 days because its a new food. Its normal!
Like you I was a do it by the book mother as well, but when you wake up every half hour in the middle of the night or every hour and a half, it gets old and you want to bang that book against your head, or toss in the trash lol!
Oh and I done mine in the bottle at first, it seemed easier, just have to open the bottle hole a bit bigger, or if you want go to your local wal mart and buy a “cereal bottle” its small, and inexpensive! What ever you do make sure its very well shook up/mixed and occasionally during feeding shake/stir it to avoid clumping!

I start feeding my daughter rice cereal when she was 6 months. I honestly think 3 months is too early.
