Is It Good To Drink Ginger Ale With An Upset Stomach?
I have been having acid reflux symptoms, like bad heartburn and nausea. The doctor told me to avoid anything with citric acid in it, or anything spicy. My 16 yr. old brother told me that people with an upset stomach are recommended to drink Ginger Ale. The third ingredient is citric acid, so I’m not sure if its ok.

ginger ale is supposed to make you feel better, it does for me anyway. eat some crackers, maybe saltines, with it. ginger is supposed to strengthen your immune system, too so theres another reason to eat it.

It sure helps alleviate discomfort whenever I have an upset stomach I drink ginger ale, but in this case I wouldn’t take that chance take Imodium A-D, Pepto-Bismol or Nexium.http://www.purplepill.comhttp://www.pepto-bismol.comhttp://www.imodium.com
Consult your physician first.

Get some real ginger ale or ginger beer. It won’t have all that other stuff in it. Look for it in the whole foods type stores.
Anything with ginger should help. Stay away from peppermint. It’s bad for reflux.

it can help nasea…but ginger and carbonation are the opposite of what you would want to ingest if you have too much acid in your tummy.

The best thing to do is to get some ginger root, slice off a thin slice and chew. You get the “calming” effects of the ginger without the citric acid.
Ginger root is sold at the bus stations in India, it is perfect for upset stomach and motion sickness.

Ginger ale would not be recommended for acid reflux, because of the citric acid as you said. The reason ginger ale is recommended for upset stomach is because of the ginger(which most commercial ginger ales do not contain)
You can get a ginger tea to drink. Most stores sell it in tea bags (which contain other ingredients also)or if you have any Asian food stores near you, they should have a ginger drink mix that is ginger and sweetener. You just add it to hot water. You can also make your own by peeling some ginger root and steeping it in hot water for about 10 minutes. You can then add some honey, sugar or sugar substitute to sweeten it.
Another ginger option is ginger candies. They come in chews and hard candy. If none are sold in stores near you then you can order them on-line from http://www.gingerpeople.com The site has tons of other real ginger drinks, foods and sauces, as well as more information on the benefits of ginger.
Or you can always get some pickled ginger and just eat a slice when needed. Most supermarkets have it in the Asian food section.

Ginger ale is good for settling upset stomachs – but that isn’t what you have. You have acid reflux and that is a completely different thing. Listen to your doctor.

In general Yes drinking Ginger Ale is good for an upset stomach but it should be drank at room temperature and not cold, However someone in the circumstance your in, yes your right there is citric acid in Ginger Ale and if your doctor has recommended that you stay away from citrus you would do best to stay away form it. You could just try regular carbonated water, the carbonation in the water is what helps to settle an upset stomach.
