I am not familiar with this particular brand, but the name leads me to believe the pearls are faux. Shell pearls are faux pearls created from ground mollusk shell. They tend to look perfect but they are not genuine.
If the pearls are indeed 50 to 60 years old AND genuine, they would be akoya cultured pearls. There is a simple way to tell if they are genuine and from the 1950s. During this time only Japan was producing pearls and nearly every strand was graduated from around 3 mm near the clasp to approximately 7 mm in the center. The graduation is very strong and immediately noticeable. If there is no graduation it would be another indication the pearls are fake.
Post a picture of them on Pearl-Guide.com’s community forum and you will receive immediate feedback and a definitive answer, http://www.pearl-guide.com/forum .
