Bell peppers would need big containers like 5 gallon containers, same with tomatoes cucumbers and other large vegetables… smaller vegetables do well in smaller containers… choose varieities that are natural dwarfs in order to save space

Bell peppers, Head lettuce, Big boy tomatoes, onions broccoli, squash, and cucumbers can be grown into the ground. The patio tomatoes should hang in a pot and the pot should be a foot deep.

I use 10 Gallon containers for full size tomatoes, but 5 would be the smallest you should use. 5 would be fine for patio tomatoes. You can fit two bell peppers in a five gallon container with no problem. Squash and cucumbers would also probably be happiest in a 5-10 gallon container, depending on the variety. (Try find bush varieties.) Head lettuce can probably go in a pretty small container, but you’ll need to keep it watered more frequently.
I use Miracle Grow potting soil, but the important thing is to use potting soil. I’ve tried messing with other mixes including top soil and compost, but the plants are healthiest with potting soil. Even with the Miracle Grow potting soil, you will still need to fertilize at some point during the season depending on the size of the containers you use and the size of the plants you are growing.

Thanks for the post. I’ve been a chiropodist in Cardiff and love learning about my profession, so this is very helpful.
