Feed A Dog Enough Rice And It Will Cook Itself?
My husband works with a guy that’s always telling these strange stories. He tells my husband during the Vietnam War the Vietnamese soldiers would feed dogs rice and for some reason it would heat up in their stomachs hot enough to cook the rice and the dog. He says they would do this so they didn’t have to light a fire and give away their positions. Is there any fact to this? I need sources.

what? no.
dogs have an internal temperature of about 102. if they eat plain rice their stomach acids will simply digest it.
In general they used what were call “C” rations.
These rations were freeze dried food that you would simply add hot water and they would cook.

First, getting a dog to even eat uncooked rice is unlikely. Second, if it did, all that would happen is the rice would swell up in the dogs stomach – possibly enough to cause the stomach to burst and kill the dog. Thirdly, A dog’s body temperature isn’t high enough to cook anything. Fourth, cooked dog is an edible meat in Asian countries; but, a fire would have been needed to cook the meat. The mans story is highly unlikely – at least as being a common occurrence. But, who’s to say what hungry, desperate, men will try under battlefield conditions?
