Can My Chinchilla Eat A Piece Of Shredded Wheat? Or Are Thet Too Young?
I have two chinchillas and one is about 7 months the othere is around and and a half and i was wondering if i could feed them each on piece of shredded wheat. I went to wegmans today and bought the cereal shredded wheat so can i give them one each. I usually give them half a rasian a day but can i switch to one shredded wheat a day?

There’s nothing wrong with giving your chins a piece of shredded wheat, but chins are “junk addicts” so feed this to them sparingly. They should only have one treat per day, and definitely do not feed them the kind of shredded wheat that has sugar on it. It should be plain with no sugar added. Other treats they might like that I’m sure are at Wegman’s are dried pineapple and dried papaya pieces. These actually help their digestive tract a bit, but again, not more than one small piece per day. Also, as far as the size of the piece, my vet put it to me this way: Imagine you were given a treat (cake, cookies, ice cream, whatever it is you like) that is the size of your fist. That’s about an appropriate portion if you’re only having one sweet per day. When you give the chinnies a treat, try not to make it larger than the size of their hand.
